Does TempQueen work?

What is the opposite of “Does what it says on the tin”? Recent evidence suggests that artificial queen mandibular pheromone does not suppress queen cell formation.

I spent a career immersed in the scientific literature. Initially this would involve interminable visits to the library to read the journals. Then emailed tables of contents became routinely available. More recently, Google Scholar (or similar dedicated scientific search engines like Web of Science) would do the trawling for you.

I still keep up with the honey bee science literature, and continue to use Google Scholar to do the legwork. In the past few years it has widened its search parameters to include pre-prints, conference proceedings, and even student theses or undergraduate project reports.

Sorting the wheat from the chaff takes quick scanning, some sanity-checking based upon the institution/journal/review status {{1}}, and a willingness to read stuff that looks interesting … then turns out to be dull, derivative or drivel.

However, now and then, something appealing pops up.
